Information for the Kenwood TH79A Dual Band Radio My thanks goes out to the local library for the use of the reading edge and my wife Debbie for her help and patients, oh and lets not forget Kenwood for the nice manual. Don't know why they can't put there manuals on the web. This is very rough so if you fix anything please shoot me a copy. My braille copy is a bit better except it has a few of my brailling errors. If you have any questions or need help in running your TH79A just email me I know this rig inside and out. If I don't know the answer I'll try to look it up for you. 73 from KB0UZT Revised by: wb6niu@141.com KEY PAD LAY OUT Working from left to right, top to bottom, here are the controls - On/Off - 2 Meter Volume - Enc Control and on the same knob located on the bottom 440 Volume Control Now we get to the buttons on the left side of the unit - PPT (push to talk) - Lock Switch - Lamp (background light for lcd display) - Moni (monitor button) Top of unit - To the left of the speaker there are 2 buttons 1 - Top is power (low beep is 5 watts) first high beep is mid power and second high beep is low power. 2 - Bottom is band (high beep is UHF low beep is VHF) Four buttons across the unit just below the LCD display 1 - Top left: MHZ ABC CLR 2 - Top right: Call Call in Set 3 - Lower left: VFO left EROW 4 - Lower right: MR MR in right EROW KEY PAD: 1 2 3 A 4 5 6 B 7 8 9 C * 0 # d Here is the list of labels on the buttons 1 - PAG 2 - DTSS 3 - CTCSS A - FUNCTION (F) 4 - PAG CODES 5 - DT CODES 6 - TONE SELECT B - MENU and STATUS 7 - T ALT 8 - ID IN 9 - ID LEFT and RIGHT EROWS 1 C - SQL and GUIDE * - SHIFT and TONE 0 - l-OUT # - REVIEW and STEP D - DUAL and DUP TH79A MENU OPTIION LIST The TH79A will beep on Menu Item 1. For example to enter a frequency of 146.820 enter 46820. If successful, the radio should beep longer when the last digit is pressed. Since 440 is set to a 12.5 KC step, you will not need to enter the last digit of the frequency. For example to enter a frequency of 441.875 you would enter 4187. The Th-79 has an auto offset mode however this only works on VHF. For UHF you will need to set your offset manually.
